Almost Home Kids Thanks Outgoing Board members for Their Service; Welcomes Members to the New Advisory Board

NAPERVILLE, IL – At a baseball-themed Annual Board of Directors meeting held at The Grotto at the Oak Brook Promenade, the contributions of outgoing Almost Home Kids Board members were celebrated and a new Advisory Board was introduced.

Immediate Past Chair Anne M. Shannon stated that the contributions of outgoing members “provided thoughtful leadership and unique insight on all aspects of Almost Home Kids. This is a group of trusted, exceptional individuals that will certainly be missed.”

Outgoing Board members include Pete Flowers, Dr. Mary Keen, Mary Kragel, Rev. Linda Owens and Dr. Keith Veselik.

Almost Home Kids welcomes the following new Board of Directors:

Michael T. Hoffman, M.D. is a graduate of the University of Illinois Medical School. He is a Pediatrician in private practice with the Elmhurst Clinic in Elmhurst, IL since 1998. Dr. Hoffman currently serves as Committee Chairman for the Pediatric Review Committee and as a Committee Member for the Medical Staff Quality Oversight Committee for Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. He is also a Fellow with the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Carolyn M. Johnson is the Senior Staff Engineer at Continental Automotive Systems. Ms. Johnson has a strong history of community involvement including serving as vocal and hand bell choir member for St. Edmund Catholic Church in Oak Park, IL and as the Box Tops for Education Coordinator for St. Vincent Ferrer Grade School in River Forest, IL.

Robert H. Muriel, ESQ, is senior partner at Muriel Law Offices, LLC in Chicago. His specialty is complex commercial litigation. A graduate of Loyola University School of Law, he is a current member of the Loyola University Chicago School of Law Alumni Board of Governors. Mr. Muriel is a member of the Illinois Coalition for Equal Justice and is a past President of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois.

Kathleen Ruroede, Ph.D., M Ed., is the Assistant Vice President of Quality and Research at the Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in Wheaton, IL. Kathleen received both her Ph.D. in research methodology and her M.Ed. from Loyola University, Chicago. She has served as a consultant for JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) and as Chair and Associate Professor at Finch University of Health Sciences at The Chicago Medical School, North Chicago.

President & CEO, Deborah A. Grisko introduced the new Advisory Board at the meeting and noted that “The Advisory Board will help the Board of Directors in their mission and as Almost Home Kids continues to grow, this mission remains--to provide Illinois’ premier service for medically fragile children and their families.”

Members of the new Advisory Board include: Steve Cocharan, Jay Doherty, Peter Erikson, Leann Lazzari, Garry Gardner, MD, Peter J. Flowers, Esq.
