Volunteer Opportunities

We are currently accepting New Volunteer Applications for our Naperville & Chicago sites and our Peoria site (see application links below). Prospective volunteers will be invited to the next available orientation in the order of receipt of your application. Orientations are scheduled once a month at our Chicago and Naperville locations, please contact Lisa at lsnow@almosthomekids.org if you have any questions. Volunteer program opportunities:

  • Recreational Activities with the Children—Opportunities are available 7 days a week for a 2-hour shift commitment. You will self-select your shifts making it very flexible for volunteers.
  • Gardening/Yard Work Tasks in NAPERVILLE (lsnow@almosthomekids.org) or PEORA (cheryl.a.murin@osfhealthcare.org).
  • Coordinating of Fundraising Events benefiting Almost Home Kids.
  • Coordinating Donation Drives benefiting Almost Home Kids.
  • Event Support Volunteer.
  • Corporate Volunteer Days (weekdays only) will be outside projects only this spring, summer & fall.

Recreational Volunteers will engage the children one-on-one in developmental play activities such as puzzles, sensory toys, reading story books or simply holding a baby. It is important you feel you would be comfortable volunteering with a child who has complex medical needs. We are seeking volunteers who can commitment to a minimum of 4 volunteer hours every month for at least a 4–5-month time period following your Orientation. If you are interested in becoming a Recreational Volunteer, please read our guidelines:

  • Volunteers will need to complete an online application & will then be invited to register & attend the next available Volunteer Orientation.
  • Volunteers are asked to commit to at least two 2-hour shifts per month ~ or more! Volunteers available to volunteer on the weekends will be prioritized for Orientation registration.
  • Volunteers must be at least 17 years of age to be a Recreational volunteer at this time.
  • Volunteer shifts are available 7-days a week from 10am to 7pm.
  • Volunteers will choose their own 2 hour shifts based on calendar availability making it very flexible for volunteers.
  • Volunteers need to submit a printed COLOR copy of a photo ID.
  • Volunteers need to be up to date with all vaccinations.
  • Volunteers need to submit documentation of an annual negative TB test (administered within last 12 months) prior to attending orientation.
  • Volunteers need to submit documentation of an annual Flu shot during the Flu season October – April.
  • Volunteers will be asked to complete a Background Check form at Orientation.
  • AHK is not an appropriate site for court mandated service hours.

NAPERVILLE
Orientation Information: We are located at 7S721 Rt. 53 in Naperville. Please click below on the heading NEW VOLUNTEER APPLICATION FORM below to begin the process of joining our Volunteer Program! We will invite to the next available Orientation in the order that we receive the applications. Orientations are offered once a month. We are currently registering for the Tuesday, April 16th – late afternoon Orientation. Please indicate if you are available for weekend shifts. Thank you for your patience.

CHICAGO
Orientation Information: We are located at 211 E. Grand Ave on the 6th floor of the Ronald McDonald House. We will invite to the next available orientation in the order that we receive the applications. Orientations are offered once a month.
