What Is The Role of an Almost Home Kids Volunteer?
Volunteers will engage the children one-on-one in developmental play activities such as puzzles, sensory toys, reading story books or simply holding a baby. It is important you feel you would be comfortable volunteering with a child who has complex medical needs.
What Are the Requirements?
- All volunteers must be 18 years or older
- All volunteers must commit to volunteering weekly for at least 6 months
- All applicants must complete a health clearance and background check. Any expenses incurred to complete the health clearance are the responsibility of the applicant*
- Volunteers are encouraged to use public transportation if possible, but will have access to the parking garages. Validated parking for volunteers will be the same price as families and visitors of the hospital.
- Please note: AHK is not an appropriate site for court mandated service hours.

What Are The Steps To Get Started?
Naperville & Chicago Locations:
- Complete the application for the volunteer program you’re interested in.
- If your interests and experience are a match, a Volunteer Coordinator will contact you to arrange next steps.
- Complete a candidate screening, which includes:
- An Interview
- Health Clearance
- Background Check
- Volunteer Orientation
- Assignment-specific training
